Quarter Two

This quarter we took Chapter 3: The English Colonies. The big idea of the chapter was that Pilgrims were coming to live in the Americas for several purposes. People in the colonies eventually got used to the idea that they have a right to live independently with the court of Britain on their backs. In the end, it caused several different acts from the British in England, and revolts from the English in the Americas. Chapter 3 also explains slavery, which was used in all colonies, how they were treated differently, and what they had to work on depending on where they lived in the New England Colonies.

The purpose of learning Chapter 3 was to show us how colonists just wanted their own way of life and not the English in Britain commanding them. Also, religion caused major revolts on how ministers do not have to show colonists the basis of religion and how they show that they should not be the only ones in high courts and meetings. There were also many wars between different countries that were controlling different parts of the Americas and how in the end the British, Spanish, and the French got the area they wanted in the Americas.

I learned a lot of details about the beginnings of English settlements in the Americas such as indentured servants and slave codes. The big idea also of revolt in the English colonies was Taxation with Representation which caused the colonists to refuse many goods from England and taxes. Taxation with Representation caused a lot of revolts such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. All of these events will result in many events to come after such as the American Revolution with Britain.

I could have learned differently if we took notes about each section and did the questions for each section. For the test I think we could have studied more if we did the review in the book also with the sheets that Mrs. Prairie provided us with. I would have learned differently if I re-read the sections again just to make sure my information is correct.

This relates to my goal of having homework turned in on time because it gives you on time basis of what you are going to expect on the test and what you got wrong shows you that. Turning homework in on time also shows you what the teacher what he/she expects you to write in a essay/test and so on.
